He whakamārama mō te tūranga mahi | About the role

As a Senior Sonographer, you'll play a key role in delivering high-quality ultrasound services while supporting the Charge Sonographer and wider team. This position combines clinical expertise with leadership responsibilities, allowing you to influence service delivery, mentor colleagues, contribute to quality initiatives, and provide leadership support when required.

You'll work alongside a skilled multidisciplinary team in a clinic that values collaboration, continuous improvement, and exceptional patient care.

This is a permanent, part-time position, 24 hours per week (0.6 FTE).

In this role, you will:
  • Perform high-quality ultrasound examinations in accordance with ASUM, ASA and industry best-practice guidelines.
  • Provide exceptional patient care, ensuring patients feel informed, supported and comfortable throughout their examination.
  • Maintain accurate patient information and examination documentation.
  • Work closely with radiologists, clinical teams and referrers to ensure outstanding diagnostic outcomes.
  • Support and mentor sonographers and student sonographers as required.
  • Assist the Charge Sonographer in maintaining clinical standards, quality assurance initiatives and service improvements.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of clinical policies, protocols and best practices.
  • Participate in continuing medical education and professional development activities.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of Charge Sonographer responsibilities and provide leadership support when required.
  • Foster positive working relationships across clinical and administrative teams.

We're looking for a clinically confident Senior Sonographer who combines technical excellence with strong leadership and relationship-building skills.
You will have:
  • A recognised ultrasound qualification.
  • Current registration with the New Zealand Medical Radiation Technologists Board (MRTB) and a current Annual Practising Certificate.
  • Proven experience delivering exceptional patient care.
  • The ability to lead, coach and support colleagues within a collaborative team environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with patients, referrers and healthcare professionals.
  • A commitment to continuous improvement and quality outcomes.
  • Experience working effectively in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
  • The ability to remain calm, professional and solutions-focused under pressure.
  • A collaborative mindset and a genuine desire to contribute to team success.
